The IDT Board of Trustees has noted with serious concern the allegations of corruption
that have surfaced in the recent past through main-stream and social media platforms.
At the center of the controversy has been the Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA)
Oxygen Plant bids. This is a project of the Department of Health which IDT is the
implementing agent on behalf of the department.
The Board re-affirms its zero tolerance for any form of fraud, corruption and malpractice
in the entity.
“These allegations cannot go untested as they bring the image of IDT into disrepute.
For IDT to continue growing its business portfolio, it must demonstrate the capacity to
deliver quality projects on time and within budget. The internal processes leading to
the awarding of tenders and project management should be beyond reproach.
Therefore, anything that smells of malfeasance should be nipped in the bud and those
found to be responsible of such, shall face consequences management.” said Adv.
Kwazi Mshengu, IDT Board of Trustees Chairperson.
With regard to the PSA project, the Department of Health has since written to the IDT
communicating its intention to withdraw the contract from IDT.
“The Board of Trustees have since directed the Management of IDT to accept the
Department of Health’s intention as communicated by the department. The teams
comprising the IDT as well as the department should follow all applicable legal
prescripts to avoid any unintended consequences of realising the intention of the
Department of Health, and to ensure there is no litigation against both the IDT and the
department”
.
In order to mitigate the major impact to the public who depends on public health, the
Board wishes that this matter should be speedily resolved so that the impact does not
affect the public.
The IDT Management maintains that procurement processes were followed with regard
to the PSA Oxygen Plant programme. Therefore, the Board of Trustees also welcomes
and are encouraged by the fact that the Hawks are investigating the allegations
pertaining to project. The IDT team has and will continue to cooperate with the Hawks
and provide all the necessary information at its disposal. The Board has further taken
a decision to commission a full-scale independent review of our internal processes to
ensure that any gaps that may exist within the procurement processes are adequately
addressed.
