IDT chairperson Zimbini Hill on Wednesday told Parliament that committed employees are helping to improve performance, which is responsible for building public infrastructure.

The Independent Development Trust (IDT) said it’s slowly making a turnaround and restoring its image after recent scandals that have rocked the entity.

She has been backed by Minister of Public Works Dean Macpherson, who said the organisation is on track for a sustained recovery.

Over the past year, the IDT has made headlines for a dodgy hospital oxygen supply tender worth over R800 million.

Its former CEO, Tebogo Malaka, who was at the centre of that scandal, was also caught on secret camera attempting to bribe a journalist.

Macpherson said the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) is at the stage of Making a decision on the corruption complaints against her.

“We await that decision eagerly so that we not only match our tough talking action internally within the department, but so that there’s also consequences for errant behaviour within criminal justice.”

IDT chairperson Zimbini Hill said a zero-tolerance approach to corruption has been adopted, and employees are being subjected to lifestyle audits.

“Not everybody at the IDT is corrupt or is involved in maladministration as one would like to believe.”

Hill said the organisation is also starting to improve its financial situation and recover debt owed to it.
