The Independent Development Trust (IDT) was appointed by Northern Cape Department of Health for the construction of Heuningvlei Community Health Centre in Heuningvlei village.
The community health centre will have a Maternity Clinic and Emergency Medical Services (EMS). the centre is about 8000m’ in size and will provide much needed health care in the village. Heuningvlei is a small village situated in the Joe Morolong Local Municipality. The name “Heuningvlei” means “the hollow of the bees where water gathers:
The village is known for its blue asbestos mining during the seventies. as such the local residents now suffer from asbestos related illnesses.
The construction of the new health centre will adequately respond to the asbestos related illnesses.
The construction of the centre stimulated local economy as some building materials were locally sourced and 10 sub-contractors were also locally sourced. The project created about 160 job opportunities for the bcal residents.
The newly built community health centre Will comply with the national norms and standards of the National Health Insurance (NHI), the national government’s health blueprint to deliver quality healthcare to all South Africans. The new Heuningvlei Community Health Centre which occupies about 8000m2 consist of the following features :
