The Board of the Independent Development Trust (IDT) is treating all matters before it
with the seriousness they deserve and has launched a number of concurrent processes
to bring stability to the organisation, protect funded projects and ensure continued
service delivery to communities across the country.
Over the past week, the Board has held lengthy meetings and discussions to address
these matters, including the PwC forensic investigation into the oxygen plant
procurement, the circulating video containing allegations of bribery, the suspension of
the Chief Executive Officer, and concerns relating to a number of tenders and supply
chain processes linked to them.
While sensitive investigations are underway, the Board is unable to comment on
ongoing reporting but wishes to emphasize that it is taking all necessary steps to
safeguard public funds, protect projects that deliver social infrastructure for
underserved communities, as well as poverty alleviation programs like EPWP. We will
ensure that officials accountable are held accountable wherever required.

As the Accounting Authority in terms of the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA),
the Board is fulfilling its legal mandate by acting on substantiated information,
following all applicable laws and regulations, and working with law enforcement
agencies.
Once in a position to do so, the Board will provide the public with a detailed briefing on
the actions taken and the findings of its investigations. The Board is fully aware that
restoring trust in the organisation requires openly sharing the measures implemented
to strengthen governance and protect public funds.
We are committed to doing so at the earliest possible stage, without compromising any
ongoing criminal investigations.
